Coding a better economy
Code Collective is a Baltimore-based tech labor organization. We bring technologists, artists, and community organizers together to learn, build useful tools, and strengthen the local economy. Our work connects practical skills and community cooperation with advocacy for an economy that meets people's needs.
Skills, collaboration, and community
We help people find one another through a shared calendar of local tech events, community meetups, and volunteer organizing. Our free Version Control Basic Proficiency program helps coders and artists collaborate on real projects and develop skills they can put to use together.
Our timebank communities make skills and help available through exchange: one hour of help earns one timebank hour. Visit the Code Collective Timebank to connect with others and share what you can offer.
A voice for tech labor
We advocate for local participation in the development, operation, and benefits of technology. Our platform calls for a green industrial economy, universal basic income, housing and energy abundance, and automation that serves human wellbeing. We support transparent data center development and local employment in programming, operations, and maintenance.
Tools for public understanding
Our projects turn public information into tools people can explore and use. These include the Maryland data center and energy map, the Maryland bills tracker, Baltimore testimony tracking, and Balticonomy, a map of Baltimore's innovation ecosystem. We build these tools to support informed participation in decisions that shape our region.
